First, OL training. That was pretty awesome. We did a lot of 'get to know the other OLs' activities and got free food and had people come and talk to us and stuff.
Then move in was also a lot of fun. We got to wheel the big blue bins around, loading them up with people's stuff and taking them up to their rooms. We got a lot of people thanking us and we answered questions and had to deny tips because we're not allowed to take any but I did accept a tip in granola bars, which was awesome :3
Then orientation week. Also awesome.
We took a bunch of freshies out on tours around the city, I got to go to the movies with 'em twice for free and saw Ponyo and Time Traveler's Wife. I also got to go see Billy Elliot the play for free along with Fuerza Bruta, which was practically a performance piece on crack merged with a rave party and it was just beautiful and full of AWESOME. We got soaked and skipped down the street afterward and I still have bits of paper stuck to my shoes. Billy was awesome as well.
Also, more free food.
There are a ton of pictures on Facebook with us messing around in our bright orange shirts and me wearing Jason's helmet that is waiting for me to buy it but I need my paycheck first. Oh yea, and we got paid to do all this awesome stuff. Yes!
I made new friends, with both OLs and a couple freshmen that are awesome, so that feels good. One fond memory I have is when we would have events like karaoke in the Monkey Bar lounge- that's our school's private hang out spot- Jason and I would wear our helmets, stand at the door, and use pool cues to block the door in order to check IDs and ask them riddles before letting people in.
I miss being an OL.
Then school started. And I got super busy spending all my money on art supplies and finishing projects. We started on Tuesday, which was nerve racking since I started with my two toughest and, in my opinion, most important classes. First, Principles of Illustration with my idol, Yuko Shimizu ([link]), who is pretty adorable and awesome, yet I am still intimidated by her. We had to do a 30x22 in. piece with 50 people/cartoons/things that have influenced our lives. That was actually a really fun project and I will upload it when I am able to get a good photograph of it. Then it was Drawing with Thomas Woodruff ([link]), the chair of the Illustration and Cartooning departments. He is an interesting guy that will love you if you work and do what he says, otherwise he will be a hardass and you will get no love. First homework for him was a life-sized self portrait. That one I might not post up, but we'll see.
Wednesdays I have an interesting art history class called Art and Sexuality, where we discuss women artists and women in art. Last class we discussed Naked v Nude as explained in John Berger's Ways of Seeing and applied his theories to classic works of art. See? Interesting.
Thursdays, watercolour class and painting with Elwell ([link]). I can't say much about the watercolour class except that the teacher left a sour taste in my mouth by not showing up to the first class. Elwell seems like a sweet heart though, so I might enjoy his painting class, even though I highly dislike using oil paints, haha. I actually passing some time here before its time to go to watercolour class.
Fridays I am free and Mondays I have History of Illustration with the awesome man, Joo Chung (and Ms. Fasolino, but I don't know anything about her yet).
Neat school year.
Lots of work.
Its gonna be awesome.
Now, about my computer ... Alright, it's bitchin' time.
FIRST, it took 3 attempts to get the repair box sent to me.
THEN, I finally get the box, ship out my computer the next day, and all seems well. I get progress emails, everything was covered by my warranty, they send a confirmation email about my address that I confirmed (though they keep spelling my last name wrong and just won't fix it for some reason ... How hard is it to spell GARCIA? Seriously.), they ship it out, I get a tracking number that says its being delivered to 10010, which is my zip code. All is well.
See, this is where I decide to cut my future ties with HP. Not only do they have really bad customer service, not only does it seem that their products keep getting cheaper in quality, they can't even do a simple repair job correctly. No, the repair went just fine. What didn't was where my computer ended up.
In Skid's living room.
What?
So, I had to get a bus ticket to Syracuse- by the way, Greyhound raised their prices- and pick up my computer because HP is stupid.
At least I was there for his graduation, which was nice. Got to hang with his family, so that was cool.
It was a nice weekend, though I had to be a hermit before I left and when I got back so I could finish up my projects.
I got my external hard drive in the mail yesterday and will be setting my computer back up with all my programs and files tonight. Happy happy.
This weekend will be filled with work, but my own personal work- you know, swaps and such, which I have been doing but not uploading- and a doll meet Saturday, which should be awesome since its been ages. And I have been ignoring my boys lately. MO has a new outfit and was restrung, though I do want to redo his arms, suede, and wire him. Ely is still waiting for a body since the company is a bit behind on orders, and I have been saving up for my girl. I did get Ely an outfit and some cute shoes with fruit patterns on 'em that were keychains from Chinatown though.
But I won't bore anyone with doll talk.
Anyway, so that's that. I got a few things that need to be photographed, so I will see what I can do. My room's light STILL sucks and they won't change it, and I had a roach in my sock one day and a mouse stealing my candy the next. But we found the hole in the wall where they came from, but the maintenance people haven't fixed that either, so I covered it up. No more problems. And I keep my room fairly clean.
Again, happy happy.
My favourite necklace broke yesterday though. Skid gave it to me years ago and I have been wearing it ever since. It was just the chain though, so Ima get a new one soon hopefully.
That's pretty much that.
I will be surprised if anyone actually cared enough to read through that.
Oh, and just because I mentioned it:
[link]
Awesome.
EDIT:
I just wanted to mention that the mom of a good friend of mine is in the hospital. My heart goes out to her and I want everyone to hope really hard that she gets better soon. She has been in the hospital the last couple weeks which is really not fun.
WE LOVE YOU AND YOU'LL BE ALL BETTER SOON
